Howdy live Theater Lovers 👋

WELCOME TO MAMA PEG’S WORLD

Mama Peg is the kind of woman who holds a family together without ever announcing that she’s doing it. A Southern Geechee Gullah matriarch, she is deeply faith-rooted, sharp-tongued when necessary, and tender where it matters most. Audiences of all backgrounds find Mama Peg—and the rich cast of characters who inhabit her world—deeply engaging, leaving the theater moved, entertained, and wanting more.

Mama Peg’s Roots

A Story That Feels Personal, Because It Is

Written by Morris Brown College alumna Olivia Butler, Mama Peg’s Kitchen reflects lived experience, generational memory, and cultural preservation. One of the central characters, Baby Girl, is a 1950s Morris Brown College student—representing the ambition, leadership, and rising social consciousness of Black college students during a pivotal era.

This is not nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. It’s storytelling with purpose: honoring where we come from while reminding us how timeless these lessons still are.

Why This Story Matters Today

While set in the 1950s, the message of Mama Peg’s Kitchen is timeless. It speaks to:

  • The importance of faith in the home
  • The power of generational wisdom
  • The strength of family and community
  • God’s presence in ordinary moments

Audiences leave encouraged, uplifted, and reminded that joy, laughter, and grace can still be found, especially when we gather together.
